About Yoga Therapy

What is Yoga Therapy?
Yoga therapy provides individual instruction in yogic practices and teachings to prevent and/or alleviate pain and suffering at their origin. It is designed to be taught one-on-one in order to address the specific and unique conditions of the whole student.

The foundation of yoga therapy is built on understanding the connection between health and Yoga; specifically, thoughts (vrttis) and energy (prana).

What differentiates Yoga Therapy?
The origins of yoga are Indian and based on their knowledge of defined principles, anatomies, and the human systems according to their understanding. What distinguishes yoga therapy from yoga is in the deeper understanding and "the how" and "the why" with which to apply the practice of yoga. For example, it's not just in the position of the body by itself but the addition of breathing, attention, understanding and intention that yoga therapy emerges. To put a body in a position (asana) not supported by yogic principles is simply physical therapy.

Yoga therapy can be defined as the application of yoga techniques for the use of an individual's healing or well-being, however, the key differentiating factor will be in the justification of treatment decisions.
