Being Present

Prana

This month I've been reading an amazing book called, "The Heart of Yoga" by T.K.V. Desikachar. I've read and re-read a chapter on Pranayma and I am still trying to wrap my head around all that it entails. The passage I keep referring to says, "Prana can be described as something that flows continuously from somewhere inside us, filling us and keeping us alive: it is vitality". It's amazing to me that something that is always available to us can seem so unattainable at times. For me, I am most aware of pranayama in those last few moments of a great practice, when my body assimilates all that it has achieved and my mind is completely at rest. When I am totally present and can experience that moment of contentment I feel truly awake and alive. How can we carry that feeling off the mat? I'm no expert and I don't have a one-size-fits-all answer, but when I take a few moments to really experience something that makes me happy, whether it be the warm sun on my skin or a great song, I become aware of how perfect life is. For me, this is pranayama.
